No job is too small. No problem too big! Community Design Surgeries provide free early design advice to all!
At our Community Design Surgeries, members of your community – residents, local business owners and community groups – are offered the opportunity for a free 30-minute consultation with a local design professional.

What Advice Can I Expect?
At the design surgery, you will be able to access early design advice regarding your project from local Design Professionals. The type of advice we can offer at the surgery could include the following:
- Initial tips for how to approach the design of your project
- Ideas for potential retrofit solutions you could consider
- Details on necessary planning and building approvals
- Discussions on key stages of your project
- Other considerations, including sustainability and a rough budget estimate
- Information on possible grant funding to help with your project
What Happens At The Consultation?
If attending a Community Design Surgery you should expect the following steps:

A community design surgery appointment will be 30 minutes long. However one should allow for 40 -60 minutes in total to accommodate all steps in the process.

Bath
We are excited to announce that, in collaboration with the University of Bath on the AHRC-funded project “Our Future Past,” we will be offering several Community Design Surgeries. These surgeries will take place during events scheduled for April and May 2025 on the following dates:
05 April | Roseberry Road Studios, BA2 3DX | 10.00 am to 3.00 pm
07 April | Percy Centre, BA1 2BN | 12.00 pm to 5.00 pm
24 April | Location: Mulberry Park Hub, BA2 5BU | Time: 12.00 pm to 5.00 pm
01 May | Bath City FC, BA2 1DB | 2.00 pm to 7.30 pm

Future Locations
Frome
On Saturday 10th of August 2024, Neighbourhood Toolbox hosted a Community Design Surgery at Victoria Park, Frome, as part of Frome Town Council’s Community Celebration.
We hope to host another Community Design Surgery in Frome soon.
Westbury
We are in discussions with Westbury Town Council around the opportunity to host Design Surgeries and hope to provide an update regarding this soon!
